Charmelle Green is in her second year as Director of Student-Athlete Development and Welfare, after spending the previous four as an assistant coach on the Irish softball team. The Student Development program focuses on providing a balanced Notre Dame experience for student-athletes by focusing on five key areas: academic excellence, athletic success, career preparation, community involvement and personal development. During her tenure with the Notre Dame softball program, Green's primary focus was working with the team's outfielders. In her four-year stint with the squad, the Irish amassed a 176-67 (.724) record, claimed the BIG EAST regular season championship four times, won two conference tournament crowns and made four NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to her arrival at Notre Dame, Green served as the top assistant on the Syracuse softball team from 2000-01, and also served as an assistant at Colorado State for the 1999 season. Before beginning her collegiate coaching career, Green was the recreation program coordinator for the Salt Lake County Recreation Department, while also coaching softball at West High School, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Green also has worked as a residential social worker for the New Zealand Children and Young Persons Service in Christchurch, New Zealand, and served as an assistant director for the National Conference in Salt Lake City. A 1991 Utah graduate, Green enjoyed one of the most prolific softball careers in the history of the Western Athletic Conference. She led the Utes to WAC titles in 1990 and 1991 while earning first-team All-America honors as a junior and second-team accolades as a senior. She was named WAC Player of the Year and University of Utah Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in 1991. In 1997, she was nominated as Utah's Female Athlete of the Century and was inducted into the school's Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. |
