game-ending home runs in 1999, 2000 and 2001 ... versatile hitter who
could bat leadoff or cleanup ... hit in No. 3 spot - as top

AS A SENIOR: Named first-team all-BIG EAST while serving as
tri-captain and sharing team MVP honors with All-America pitcher
Aaron Heilman ... overcame early slump to bat .295 for the season,
with 59 RBI, eight home runs and 28 doubles (second-most in ND
history) ... his conference stats included BIG EAST bests in doubles
(13), RBI (35) and total bases (63) ... made just one error in first
21 games and 12 total ... started all 63 games at shortstop while
batting in No. 3 spot in every game but one (when he hit 5th) ...
made rally-killing 6U-3 double play in bottom of 8th at Pittsburgh
before drilling two-run double off left-center wall for final 3-0
margin ... helped close out sweep at St. John's with three RBI in 7-3
series finale (HR, 2B) ... also had big game in 13-12 rally past
UConn (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2B) ... hit two-run shot and plated

year Darren Fenster (Rutgers) ... his stats in BIG EAST games
included league's 6th-best batting avg. (.375), plus league-best
totals for RBI (27) and doubles (11), second in slugging (.667) ...
posted team-best totals in RBI (58, 3rd BIG EAST), doubles (24, 1st
BE) and slugging (.584) ... second on team in hits (83, 4th BE) and
HRs (9, 7th BE), third in batting (.342) ... grounded into just one
double play ... hit 6-for-14 at Metrodome in Hormel Foods Classic,

three-run shot in 10th ... his unique accomplishments the next day
were obscured in wild 22-18 loss, batting 6-for-6 and hitting for the
cycle (inside-the-park and traditional HR) ... first player with six
hits in 108-year history of ND baseball ... first Irish player to hit
for cycle since at least mid-'80s (boxscores incomplete prior to '85)
... tied BIG EAST hit record while his 15 total bases were three shy
of league record ... his first career grand slam broke 7-7 tie and
sparked 11-run 8th as Irish rallied past Pittsburgh at BIG EAST
Tournament (15-7) ... named to all-NCAA Starkville Regional team

AS A SOPHOMORE: Started 60 of 61 games at mostly 2B ... hit third in
50 games (nine at leadoff) ... surged to team RBI lead (60), tied for
third with .333 batting ... second on team in HRs (13, four
postseason) and walks (25), third in slugging (.613) and on-base
(.411) ... hit into just one double play ... second on team with .392
batting with runners in scoring position ... hit .393 in 23 games
decided by 1-2 runs, second only to Brant Ust (.395) on squad ...
posted 11-game hit streak (2/27 - 3/20) ... turned in rare four-game
triple streak vs. New Orleans (14-11; 2 R), Southern Illinois (15-5;
2 RBI, 2 R) and in pair of games vs. Penn State ... played key role
in wins over PSU, including 5-4 game (3 H, RBI, R) and 5-3 title game

AS A FRESHMAN: Appeared in 54 games (49 starts in left), batting .265
... fifth on team with seven HRs, plus 39 RBI ... hit mostly 7th (27
games) and 6th (13) ... hit .333 with runners in scoring position
(5th on team) ... hit two-out, two-strike single to beat Valparaiso,
1-0, in seven-inning game that went nine (3 H) ... hit leadoff homer
to spark three-run rally in 7th and final inning of 4-3 win over WVU
... the next day, he beat WVU with two-run, two-out HR in 15th ... a
week later, his 7th-inning single through the left side plated
go-ahead run vs. St. John's (2-1) ... part of team-record seven HRs
in 16-6 win at Boston College ... 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run in
BIG EAST elimination-game win over Providence (9-7).
PREP & PERSONAL: Played on four conference title teams at Naperville
North HS ... hit .434 while helping team earn national ranking his
